Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. Sponsors 43rd Annual Carmel SurfAbout in Carmel, CA
Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. is proud to return as the official coffee sponsor of the 43rd Annual Carmel SurfAbout in Carmel, California. Taking place May 30th and 31st at Carmel Beach, this long standing event brings together the local surf community for a weekend of competition, connection, and coastal tradition.
For us, this isn’t just a sponsorship, it’s a continuation of a relationship that spans over a decade, rooted in community, early mornings, and a shared love for the ocean.

A Carmel Surf Tradition Since 1980
The Carmel SurfAbout began in 1980 as a grassroots surf gathering focused on community over competition. Today, it remains one of the most anticipated surf events in Monterey County, welcoming surfers of all ages and skill levels.
From young groms to senior divisions, the event celebrates the full spectrum of local surf culture. Divisions typically include shortboard, longboard, and long distance paddle, making it one of the most inclusive contests on the Central Coast.

Honoring the Call Family and Surf Community Legacy
The event continues today through the dedication of community leaders like Andrew Call, whose efforts help carry forward the spirit of SurfAbout. Alongside volunteers and local supporters, he has helped preserve the event as a cornerstone of Carmel’s surf culture.
The Call family name also carries deep meaning on the Central Coast. Andrew’s brother, Weston Call, was a beloved Carmel native and community-minded innovator known for his work supporting sustainable tourism and protecting the Big Sur coastline.
That spirit, of stewardship, connection, and showing up for your community, lives on in gatherings like the SurfAbout.
What to Expect at the Carmel SurfAbout
The event spans two full days on Carmel Beach:
Saturday features early morning heats, a lively beach atmosphere, and the start of competition across divisions.
Sunday builds energy with final heats and standout performances, closing the weekend with a strong sense of community and celebration.
Spectators are encouraged to bring beach chairs, blankets, and tents to enjoy the event throughout the day. Late May weather in Carmel typically includes cool, foggy mornings followed by mild sunshine and ocean breezes, ideal conditions for a full day on the sand.
Supporting the Carmel Surf Community
Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Co. has proudly supported the SurfAbout for over a decade, continuing a commitment to the local surfing community and coastal culture.
This year, we’re excited to introduce a new release at the event.
Introducing Dawn Patrol Coffee Blend
Launching at the SurfAbout, Dawn Patrol is our newest coffee blend, inspired by early morning surf sessions. Designed to be bright, smooth, and energizing, it captures the spirit of first light on the water.

Coffee Offerings at the Event
Throughout the weekend, we’ll be serving:
- Fresh hot brewed organic coffee: Best selling Foglifter® and our new blend, Dawn Patrol

Whether you’re competing or spectating, our goal is simple, keep the community fueled and connected.
