All About Coffee

To preserve the freshness and flavor of our coffee, store it in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Use an airtight container to protect against moisture, and avoid storing coffee in the refrigerator or freezer, as it can absorb odors. We take pride in roasting and shipping quickly, ensuring you receive the finest, freshest coffee possible.

Unfortunately, our roastery is all business and isn’t currently open to the public. Any and all visits must be scheduled ahead of time, and are by appointment only.

No, we only source and roast Arabica beans that are certified organic by the CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers). If you enjoy our flavored coffees, please note that the flavoring is not organic so we drop the certification on those coffees. However, the beans are always (and forever) certified organic.

We source beans from every coffee growing region around the world that follows certified organic growing practices. Of the roughly 6 billion pounds of Arabica coffee beans grown each year, only about 3% is grown certified organic, so we are sourcing the best of the best.

Organic coffee brings a blend of ethical sourcing, environmental consciousness, and rich flavor to your cup. Free from synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, it supports sustainable farming practices, ensuring a healthier planet and a more robust, chemical-free coffee experience.

We’re proud members of Fair Trade USA and we buy certified organic Fair Trade when it’s available to us!

Yes, most of the coffee we offer is caffeinated. However, we do carry an exceptional organic decaf coffee if you’re looking for something caffeine-free.

Our beans undergo a water process to remove the caffeine. The green (unroasted) beans are hydrated with water, then dehydrated. Through this dehydration process the caffeine is nearly all eliminated. Our organic decaf coffee never uses chemicals to decaffeinate and this is why our decaf tastes superior to other non-organic coffees.

Espresso is a specifically roasted blend of beans. There isn’t a particular plant that produces espresso beans—they’re all coffee beans. Our espresso blends are roasted specifically for a deeper flavor profile that tastes best using the espresso style of brewing. But, our espresso blends also make a delicious cup of drip coffee so, don’t let the labels limit your brewing possibilities.

Tasting notes are the natural flavors a coffee drinker may taste based on where the coffee bean was grown, the climate it grew in, and at what stage it was harvested– not unlike a wine. These nuanced flavors are the very reason we embrace our philosophy of never over-roasting the subtle flavors out of the beans.

We have three beautiful coffee shops on the Monterey Peninsula in Carmel, California where you can come visit us and purchase our coffee. We also supply our coffee to select retailers, which can be found here. If you’re outside of California, our online shop is here for you!

The best way to stay in the loop is to subscribe to our newsletter and/or to our subscription program- The Coffee Collective. We will always share what our roastery is up to via our newsletter so you can stay up to date on all of our current happenings. But, the real benefits come when you subscribe to The Coffee Collective, where you’ll receive exclusive first access to all our freshest creations.

Payments

We accept all major credit cards and accelerated checkout through Shop Pay.

You’ll receive a notification via email once your order has shipped along with your tracking information. If for some reason, you don’t see a shipment confirmation email after several days, be sure to check your spam box first! If it’s still nowhere to be found, please fill out our Contact Form or email us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com and we can assist you.

If for some reason you need to change or cancel your order, please email us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com with your order number and we'll do our best to assist you.

Returns

We want you to be 100% satisfied with your purchase of coffee. If you are not satisfied, please email us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com and provide us with your order number and the specifics of your complaint and we will either replace or refund your order.

Your satisfaction is very important to us, so we handle each return on a case-by-case basis. You can always contact us for any return questions and if you’re not satisfied we will do everything we can to make it right. Please email us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com.

Perishable goods, including coffee, cannot be returned. However, if you’re not happy with your selection, please contact us right away for a replacement bag within 15 days of your order date. 

For non-perishable items, you can start a return by contacting us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com. If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label and instructions on dropping off your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.

We do not accept returns on sale items or gift cards.

Please inspect your order upon delivery and if the item is defective, damaged, or you received the wrong item please contact us immediately so we can make it right by emailing us at info@carmelcoffeeroasters.com.

We’ll notify you once we’ve received and inspected your returned item, and let you know if the refund was approved or not. If approved, you’ll be automatically refunded on your original payment method. Please remember it can take 7-10 days for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund to your account.

Shipping

We offer free shipping for all domestic orders over $75. For orders under $75, there will be a flat rate charge of $7.95 for anywhere in the Continental U.S. Expedited shipping rates via UPS may vary and will be calculated and displayed at checkout.

We currently ship to the United States and Canada.

We ship via USPS and offer expedited shipping via UPS.
All domestic orders are shipped via USPS Monday - Friday, excluding weekends and holidays, while we aim to process orders within 48 business hours of receiving your order confirmation email, please be advised that shipping times may vary.

The Coffee Collective

To become a member, all you have to do is select the subscription option at checkout—this will automatically enroll you into The Coffee Collective. All of your member-only benefits will remain active for as long as you have an active subscription.

Not to worry! If your coffees haven’t shipped yet, you can make all the changes you need in your account. 

To manage a change to your order like swapping for a new roast, changing the grind, updating an address, or skipping a shipment, simply log in to your account here

For changes to your order, click the “edit” box next to your account. 

For account changes, like your address, name, or credit card information, click the “my account” button to edit all of your personal information.

Simply log into your account and click the “edit” box next to your account. You’ll see an option to skip or gift a shipment.

Yes! Our “Ask the Roaster'' feature will allow you to email our master roaster with any and all questions you may have! Our team absolutely loves helping fellow coffee devotees find their new favorite roast. Simply, email asktheroaster@carmelcoffeeroasters.com to get started.
