We are thrilled to have this beautiful coffee back in our lineup! Oromia is Ethiopia’s largest regional state, covering over 110,000 square miles with a population of 35 million. It borders Kenya and South Sudan and includes the capital city, Addis Ababa. As of 2014, it also accounted for 65% of Ethiopia’s coffee-growing regions.
The Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) was formed in 1999 by 34 cooperatives seeking better export opportunities. By 2020, it had grown to support over 400 cooperatives, representing more than 400,000 farming households—making it the largest farmer union in Ethiopia. OCFCU reinvests coffee export premiums directly back into farming communities, funding organic agriculture, equipment, and food security programs. Certified Fair Trade and Organic since 2002, OCFCU remains one of the world’s largest Fair Trade coffee suppliers, helping to ensure sustainability and fair income for Ethiopian coffee farmers.
