ETHIOPIA SIDAMA 3 NATURAL FTO MOKONISSA is a new addition to Carmel Valley Coffee's exotic coffee lineup. These high-quality and diverse beans, from the birthplace of coffee, offers a robust and refreshing cup.
Mokonissa, founded in 1976, is a prominent cooperative within Ethiopia’s Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU), which exports early-harvest, top-quality coffees. The cooperative supports 1,492 smallholder farmers in the Bensa district, each cultivating less than one hectare.
Mokonissa processes premium natural coffees grown at 1700-2000 masl at its Sadeware and Bensaware stations. This meticulous process requires vast raised-bed drying space and up to 100 seasonal workers. While Mokonissa drives organic training and local infrastructure, SCFCU provides certifications, micro-credit, and social programs. Joining the Union in the late 1990s granted these smallholders vital direct-export access and global marketplace leverage.
