SUMATRA FAIR TRADE ORGANIC BENER MERIAH PERMATA GAYO MANHELDING GRADE 1 is part of Carmel Valley Coffee's exotic coffee lineup. This lovely coffee is produced primarily by women and is earthy and a bit spicy.

Bener Meriah in Sumatra is renowned for traditional coffee cultivation by the Gayonese people. Farms average under three acres, with 70% of producers being women supporting their families.
Producers carefully sort, depulp, and ferment cherries overnight before washing. They utilize Indonesia's classic Giling Basah (wet-hulling) method, removing the parchment while moisture remains high. This unique process gives the beans a distinct bluish color and a hallmark Indonesian flavor profile.
To overcome rugged roads and heavy rain, the Permata Gayo Cooperative manages logistics for nearly 2,000 members, handling the drying, hulling, and milling to ensure consistent export quality.
