Surf's Up! Get the Recipe For Carmel Valley Coffee's New Signature Latte

Winter on the California coast means stronger winds and epic waves so locals are heading to Carmel Beach in their wet suits to enjoy the high surf and extra ocean activity. Whether you're into winter swells, diamond runs, or lazy days watching Netflix®, a cozy drink is always on the menu.

Enter, Surf's Up! Our answer to après surf, après ski, or après nothing at all. It's the most chill and delicious latte that is sure to spice up your winter coffee ritual. Cozy flavors like maple and cardamom, featuring Cone Peak Espresso make this both easy to make and delicious to drink year around. We're serving it up in our coffee shops both hot and cold, because...well, its California, but you can pick your fave. Remember you control the sweetness of the maple and the floral spiciness of the cardamom so adjust to your liking.

Whenever we come up with a new signature drink, we test the flavor combinations on our seasonal drink menu in our three coffee shops in Carmel. Our customers loved the maple/cardamom combo so much that we had to make it permanent and give it a catchy name. We knew these bold flavors needed a well built espresso so the coffee flavor would hold up to the other components. 

Cone Peak Espresso is a mix of French and medium roasted beans. We use the highest quality beans from Africa and Sumatra as the foundation of this blend and add Foglifter® to give this espresso a deep body and smokey sweet finish. This coffee covers all the bases: it's earthy, bright, and full-bodied and has rich chocolate, brown sugar and herbal notes which is the "chef's kiss" combination. 

Here's the recipe for a (16 oz.) single serving. 

Surf's Up! Latte (16 oz.)

Double shot organic Cone Peak Espresso

1-2 tbs maple syrup, to taste

12 oz. steamed milk of choice

Dash ground cardamom, to taste

1. Add some tasty organic Maple Syrup to the bottom of your favorite mug or glass. Follow that up with steamed organic whole milk or your favorite milk selection. 

2.  Add two shots of Organic Cone Peak Espresso

3. Add a few dashes of Ground Cardamom to the top and enjoy!

Surf's Up! Iced Latte with Cold Foam (16 oz.)

Double shot organic Cone Peak Espresso

1-2 Tbs maple syrup, separated

12 oz. milk of choice

1 oz. heavy cream

Ground cardamom 

Ice

1. Start by making your cold foam. Add the heavy cream, 1-2 tbs of maple syrup (to taste), and several dashes of cardamom to a bowl. You can either whisk it with some good 'ole fashioned elbow grease or use your KitchenAid or handheld milk frother. You don't want this to turn into whipped cream, just a bit shy of that so that it has texture but can still sit on top of the drink. If it turns into whipped cream, you still won't be disappointed. 

2. Fill up your favorite mug with ice and 12 oz. of whole organic milk. Optional: add 1 tbs. maple syrup to the milk.

3. Add two shots of Organic Cone Peak Espresso. 

4. Top with a generous amount of Maple Cardamom Cold Foam. 

5. Sprinkle with Ground Cardamom and enjoy!
